Regulation of the veterinary profession: the authorization to practice, origins, milestones, and emerging challenges
Veterinary medicine is about much more than animal health alone. It also touches on public health, food safety, and animal welfare. Precisely for that reason, strong regulation - through a professional body - is essential to safeguard quality and trust.
But the veterinary landscape is changing rapidly: think of evolving societal expectations around animal welfare, increasing corporatization, and technological innovations such as AI. This raises a key question: are current deontological frameworks still “fit for purpose”? Can professional bodies keep up?
