29 Nov 2021

Biocheck.Gent: a new spin-off of Ghent University to improve biosecurity in animal production

The fourth spin-off company of the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine was incorporated on November 23, 2021. After Mexellence (https://www.mexcellence.eu/) specialized in udder health and mastitis management, Imaqua which focuses on research and services related to shrimp health (https://imaqua.eu/) and PathoSense (https:// www.pathosense.com/nl) which focuses on the development and implementation of new diagnostic methods for animal health, Biocheck.Gent has now also been established (https://biocheck.ugent.be/).

The company Biocheck.Gent offers services that are based on the results of research activities within the unit for veterinary epidemiology and herd health on quantification and advice related to biosafety in farm animals. The Biocheck.UGent system has already been used at more than 30,000 farms in more than 70 countries. The spin-off trajectory was supported by the IOF (Industrial Research Fund) and provaxs (https://provaxs.com). Through this new spin-off, the founders want to stimulate the use of the Biocheck.UGent system throughout the world.

Each of these spin-offs positively contributes to the economic and social valorization of the research at our faculty and they contribute to the name and fame of Ghent University and our faculty of veterinary medicine throughout the world.
