Intestinal Epithelial Cells Modulate the Production of Enterotoxins by Porcine Enterotoxigenic E. coli Strains

Piglets still suffer from postweaning diarrhea triggered by enterotoxigenic E.coli. In our latest publication we show that molecules secreted by gut epithelial cells regulate enterotoxin production by porcine enterotoxigenic E. coli. These results indicate that ETEC can sense molecules derived from the gut epithelium to orchestrate enterotoxin secretion and might inform on the future development of novel therapies directed against postweaning diarrhea induced by ETEC.
