Ghent University offers a unique proposal: the collaboration between veterinarians, physicians and scientists from different disciplines present at Ghent University takes the research to a higher level and creates many opportunities for innovation. At our Faculty of Veterinary Medicine these innovations can be tested in our own facilities and on the target species.

🐐🐑 Listeriosis in small ruminants
Nerve symptoms, ranging from sudden coordination problems to unexplained blindness, can have several causes. They can significantly affect the welfare of affected animals and can produce frightening images for their owners. One of the possible causes of nervous symptoms in sheep and goats, is listeriosis. Listeriosis is a bacterial infection caused by Listeria monocytogenes. The condition can cause serious health problems, usually as a result of damage to the head nerves degenerating from the brainstem. In very severe cases, the disease can even be fatal. Since, with prompt detection and proper treatment, small ruminants can recover from it, we take a closer look at the above pathogen in this article.
